Southside United Methodist Church
Palm Sunday, 2020
from Pastor Phillip Short...
I am going to talk about being afraid.
Fear is understandable in the face of a threat.
There is something good in fear. - "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." (Proverbs 1:7)
But there is a type of fear that is debilitating. It paralyzes us and keeps us from taking action. It makes us ineffective. It makes us distrust God. This type of fear is NOT from God. As a matter of fact, the enemy will exploit this.
I will conclude by touching on 2 Timothy 1:7
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us- timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."
1. What does 2 Timothy 1:7 mean? Proverbs 1:7, I Samuel 23:1-3
2. What are some personal examples of healthy fear? What are some personal examples of unhealthy fear? What are examples of healthy v. unhealthy fear in the middle of the virus?
3. How can I live my life with the proper balance of Godly fear and God-filled fearlessness?
Southside family... Our need to trust God during turbulent times like these is critical. So how do we do that? In this brief video I offer some encouragement and a couple of key ideas to help us cultivate deeper trust in God during such times. PS: don’t forget to subscribe to our church YouTube channel.
